On Sunday last Rapparees/Starlights GAA Club came together for the 2017 Annual General Meeting at their Bellefield Complex to elect a new Chairman and a new Committee for the 2018 season.

Outgoing Chairman John Browne in his Address said that 2017 had been a good year both on and off the field with the Club doing well financially and wins in Senior Football, U/21 Football and Junior Camogie along with much success at Underage. And with Senior Hurlers ending the season strong and competitive it augurs well for the future of the Club John said.


He thanked his Vice Chair Michael Doyle, Secretary Ger McVeigh, Treasurer Kathleen Miller and all those working week in and week out on Lotto, Bingo, Bar, Field Maintenance and Underage Discos.


He said that he had enjoyed his three years as Chairman and looked forward to working with the new Chairman and the 2018 Committee.

With only one candidate nominated for the position of Chairman Michael Doyle was deemed elected along with his Secretary and Treasurer. Those elected from the floor to run the affairs of the Club for 2018 – Tom Boland, John Browne, Maria Nolan, Ed Doran, Peter Coady, Ronan Furlong, Podge Hall, Hugo Kelly, Tomás McVeigh, Richie Peare and Pat Tobin. Seamus Doyle and Brian Morrissey were already elected as Chairmen of Coiste na nOg and Ladies Section.


Incoming Chairman Michael Doyle said that he would be adhering to the Club`s 5 Year Plan in his new position and setting up sub committees to deal with all aspects of club administration.


With All County Leagues due to kick off in March it was announced that adult training would resume at Bellefield on 6th February with Club Dinner Dance and Presentation of Medals fixed for Friday 9th March at Riverside Park Hotel.
